Antalya
Where the Mediterranean meets ancient history and natural wonder.
Why Antalya?
Set between the turquoise waters of the Mediterranean Sea and the dramatic peaks of the Taurus Mountains, with a backdrop of ancient ruins, Ottoman architecture and a bustling modern city, Antalya offers a combination of natural splendour, historical richness and genuine warmth that makes it one of the most memorable destinations in our programme. For education professionals, Antalya is a destination of surprising depth. Beyond its famous beaches and resorts, the city has a rich and layered history stretching back over two thousand years, with Roman ruins, Ottoman old town streets and some of the finest ancient archaeological sites in the Mediterranean within easy reach. Its extraordinary natural landscape makes it particularly well suited to courses on outdoor learning, environmental education and sustainability.
Antalya has a quality that is immediately restorative. The combination of extraordinary natural beauty, warm Mediterranean sunshine, ancient history and genuinely hospitable people creates an environment in which professional development and genuine personal renewal go hand in hand. It is one of the most relaxing and energising destinations in our network.
Why Train in Antalya?
Natural Beauty and the Mediterranean Landscape
The combination of turquoise sea, dramatic mountain backdrop and lush vegetation makes Antalya's natural setting one of the most beautiful in our entire network. For courses on outdoor learning, environmental education and sustainability, it provides an outstanding natural classroom.
Ancient Heritage and Roman History
The Antalya region is home to some of the finest ancient Roman and Hellenistic sites in the Mediterranean, including the remarkably preserved theatre at Aspendos and the ancient city of Perge. For courses on cultural heritage and European history, the proximity of these extraordinary sites is a major asset.
An Ideal Setting for Wellbeing and Reflection
The combination of Mediterranean climate, natural beauty and a relaxed pace of life makes Antalya one of the most naturally conducive destinations in our network for courses on teacher wellbeing, mindfulness, burnout prevention and social-emotional learning.
Getting to Antalya
Antalya Airport (AYT) is one of the busiest airports in Turkey and is served by direct flights from most European countries, including numerous charter and low-cost connections that make it one of the most affordable destinations in our network to reach. The airport is approximately 13 kilometres from the city centre and connected by tram and taxi.
Cultural Highlights
A selection of the experiences that make Antalya such a memorable destination for our participants.
The Old City of Kaleici
Kaleici, Antalya's beautifully preserved Ottoman old town, is a maze of narrow cobbled streets, traditional wooden houses, Roman ruins and ancient city walls that descend to a picturesque harbour. It is one of the most atmospheric historic neighbourhoods in our destination network.
The Roman Harbour and the Old Port
Antalya's ancient Roman harbour, now a charming marina surrounded by restaurants and cafes, is the social heart of the city's old town. An evening at a waterfront restaurant in the old harbour, watching the boats and the sun set over the Mediterranean, is among the most pleasant social experiences in our programme.
Aspendos and the Ancient Sites
The Roman theatre at Aspendos, just 47 kilometres from Antalya, is one of the best preserved ancient theatres in the world and still used for performances today. It is among the most impressive ancient monuments in our entire destination network.
Turkish Cuisine and Coastal Life
Antalya's food culture combines the best of Turkish cuisine with the fresh seafood and produce of the Mediterranean coast. Long evenings at a waterfront restaurant in the old harbour, with grilled fish, meze and the sound of the sea, are among the most pleasurable social experiences in our programme.
