About This Course
Drama in education is not about performance. It is about using imagination, embodiment and collaborative creativity as tools for deep learning, empathy development and genuine engagement with curriculum content. When students step into role, they become more willing to take intellectual risks, more empathetic and more motivated.
This course gives education professionals a practical, playful and pedagogically rigorous introduction to creative drama as an educational approach. No performance experience is required. Participants experience the techniques from a learner's perspective before developing the skills to use them as teachers.
The course connects to LifeComp, EntreComp and the EU's cultural awareness and expression key competence, and is aligned with the Erasmus+ priorities of Inclusion and Diversity and Participation in Democratic Life.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of this course participants will be able to:
Explain the educational rationale for drama and apply it to curriculum planning across subjects.
Drama is not just for English or performing arts. It is a tool for history, citizenship, languages, science and personal development. You will make the educational case for drama as a learning tool and connect it to specific curriculum goals.
Use drama conventions including tableau, hot-seating, thought-tracking and forum theatre.
You will have personal experience of each convention from a learner's perspective. That personal experience is what builds the confidence to facilitate them with students.
Design drama-based activities that develop specific curriculum competences.
You will design at least two drama-based activities for your own subject area using different conventions, using a structured process that ensures game elements serve learning goals.
Use drama for empathy development, perspective-taking and engagement with complex social issues.
Drama's unique power is its ability to put students inside another person's experience. Forum theatre allows students to step into situations of injustice or conflict and try different responses.
